Growing Mushrooms – A one day workshop
This 1-day mushroom workshop includes everything you need to grow. You will leave with actual skills that you develop during the in-class coaching.
This is not just a lecture but an interactive skill-building workshop.
You will personally work through the whole cultivation process along with your classmates and the instructor, and you will bring your work home.
Students will learn to pour agar plates, make agar to agar transfers, and make spore to agar inoculations.
Students will inoculate pre-made grain spawn jars and bulk substrate bags.
Each student will have access to every tool needed for a home laboratory setup so there can be real-time learning and practice, not just observation.
Class begins with a very brief intro to the mushroom life cycle followed by a short lecture on lab procedures and concepts.
Next, students will watch several live demonstrations and have the opportunity to practice each technique several times.
The instructor will observe students and make personalized corrections to their procedure.
No previous experience or knowledge is needed but this is a class that even experienced growers can benefit from.
Students will be asked to use controlled hand and arm movements.
Schedule:
Sunday
9am-12pm introduction to aseptic technique and pouring agar plates
12pm-1pm lunch order takeout or bring your own food
1pm-4pm Inoculate agar plates, grain spawn, and bulk substrate.
Class includes:
- Blades and Parafilm to be used in class
- 1 master mushroom culture to be used in class
- 10 agar plates Made and used in class
- A fresh mushroom to clone in class
- 1 spore print
- 1 sterile grain jar inoculated in class
- 1 premade mushroom spawn used to inoculate bulk substrate
- 1 bulk substrate bag inoculated in class
